Individuality defines a movement. From the first fly selected on a chilly spring morning, the way in which we approach our first cast on a virgin pool, or the style used to balance a fish on a light line, fly fishermen define their individuality through a complex series of catches and releases. But the circumstances surrounding this succession of challenges and failures eventually builds a library of greater experience, and being creatures influenced by our actions we adapt our way of seeing the world. Eyes become sharper, ears finely tuned to interpret the subtle language of waters, and fish start to swim through our subconscious. Our individuality is defined and our honed knowledge tested, and as we embark on the waterway of chosen kind eventually our sport becomes a way of life. This animal known as ‘fly fishermen’ has elected his/her own path, some seeking true adventure, others embracing that adventure as an art form of chance, and many becoming masters of the moment. Being of andronomous blood through over-exposure we have witnessed many generations of thought moving from protective homewater into explorative movements down river to be swept into further evolution. A new movement has slowly but powerfully begun to take shape, and a dynamic generation is asking for new definition of individuality. This symposium is a collection of thought to help define this development in the lifestyle of adventure fly fishers.
